Nakheel on board for National Sports Day with water sports spectacular on Palm Jumeirah
Nakheel pushed the boat out to mark the first UAE National Sports Day by organising a full line up of water sports events on Palm Jumeirah.
Stand-up paddling, kayaking and sailing were among the activities on offer, as part of a free community event, organised by the Nakheel Marine Group and Nakheel Asset Management and Infrastructure. More than 70 people, including Chairman Ali Rashid Lootah, senior management, staff, Palm Jumeirah residents and water sports enthusiasts took part or came to watch.
UAE National Sports Day was launched earlier this year following a directive of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. The event, which organisers hope will become an annual UAE activity, aims to promote healthy living, sporting competition and positive interaction to create among multi-cultures living in the UAE.
Saeed Hareb, Managing Director Nakheel Marine Group and Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, said: “The first National Sports Day was a huge success and it was wonderful to bring Palm Jumeirah into the mix. Nakheel’s coastal developments are a natural location for water sports events, and we look forward to more in the future.”
