Nakheel Marinas and Island Global Yachting announce thousands of new marina berths
Nakheel Marinas, the new division of Nakheel created to provide world-class marinas and amenities, has revealed plans to create thousands of berths for a full range of vessels to meet the rapidly increasing demand in the region. Announcing plans at the Dubai International Boat Show 2008, Nakheel said it is working exclusively with Island Global Yachting (IGY), the premier owner, developer, and manager of marina properties and yachting lifestyle destinations, who will design, deliver, and manage the marinas on all of Nakheel's waterfront developments.
The two companies are working hand in hand on extensive plans for the formation of a coastal network of luxury marina destinations across Dubai linking all of Nakheel's waterfront developments. These plans include the creation of mega-yacht facilities and luxury marinas on The Palm islands, Waterfront, and The World. Initial projects revealed include Anchor Marina and Mega Yacht Marina, both located at The Palm Jumeirah. In addition, there will be seven large marinas on The Palm Deira, the first of which will provide 300 wet berths and 200 on dry stack. Two out of the seven of these marinas will provide facilities to accommodate super yachts.
Saeed Harib, Director of Nakheel Marinas, said:
«Nakheel's vision is to create a standard of marinas viewed as being, at least, comparable with the best in the world. In Island Global Yachting we have a best of breed partner that will enable us to fulfill and even exceed this vision.
«We are excited about the future possibilities that our waterfront developments hold for marina development and we intend to provide the highest quality of facilities for our marinas. Our aim is to create one of the most important destinations for charter boats or visitor boats anywhere in the world through our extensive marina network across Dubai's coastline.»
Michael Horrigan, CEO Middle East and Asia of Island Global Yachting added:
«The extensive experience and expertise of creating luxurious coastline lifestyles makes IGY a perfect partner for Nakheel and our track record has led to this exclusive partnership. Our vision is to ensure that Dubai and the GCC becomes a warm water destination alongside the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. The activities outlined at this year's Dubai International Boat Show will go a long way to demonstrating this vision and our commitment to the region.»
Visitors to the Nakheel/IGY stand at the Dubai International Boat Show will be able to view images of Anchor Marina, a luxury 582 berth marina designed to provide berths and recreational facilities for all the residential components nearing completion on The Palm Jumeirah. IGY projects that the West Basin, home to half of the total berths will be operational in the final quarter of 2008, followed by the East basin a month later. The spectacular East and West clubhouses are to be opened in mid 2009 with temporary facilities in place in the meantime.
The Mega Yacht Marina which is located in the protected waters provided by the Crescent breakwater along the west shore of the Trunk of The Palm Jumeirah will also be on display at the show. The first mega yacht marina in the region, planned to open in Dubai in 2009, will have 26 berths for mega yachts up to 100 meters in length, with a further 28 berths ranging from 14 meters to 20 meters. Facilities will include utility systems especially designed to support mega yacht demand, multiple car parking spaces for each berth, at-berth storage, and an exclusive clubhouse.
