DEWA MD & CEO visits The Palm Jumeirah
Nakheel, one of the world's largest privately-held property developers, has further strengthened its alliance with DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority) after hosting a visit from DEWA MD & CEO Mr. Saeed Al Tayer to The Palm Jumeirah.
Nakheel CEO Chris O'Donnell joined Mr Al Tayer and several high-ranking DEWA officials for a high-level discussion before embarking on a tour of Nakheel's flagship development. The visit follows on from a recent agreement between the two organisations to unite in their planned vision for the future development of Dubai.
With an ultimate water demand of 20,000 m3 per day and a total power supply of 1,200 MW, the supply of utility services to The Palm Jumeirah is a considerable task for which DEWA is responsible. The tour allowed Mr. Al Tayer to view first hand the importance of the extensive utility support invested in the vast project by DEWA, bringing to life the significance of the collaboration. And with three out of the six main substations on The Palm Jumeirah already commissioned and handed over to DEWA for operation, the iconic development is progressing at a rapid pace.
Chris O'Donnell, Nakheel CEO, said: «Nakheel's strategic partnership with DEWA is crucial to our ongoing success. The next step is to build on that success; to develop a system of regular communication and liaison that will allow DEWA to plan for ongoing utility requirements and ensure a lasting relationship with the major services provider. Mr Al Tayer has provided Nakheel with unwavering support since development on The Palm Jumeirah began and we are delighted to have met with him to embark on driving this significant alliance forward.»
Nakheel will develop more than 2 billion square feet of land of a total of 4 billion square feet in Dubai over the next 20 years, with the potential to supply more than 50% of the residential properties to be constructed in the emirate during that time. Nakheel's ongoing partnership with DEWA will ensure each of its major projects such as The Palm Jebel Ali, The Palm Deira, and Jumeirah Park will benefit from the best possible infrastructure and utility service provision.
