Nakheel and DEWA collaborate to help plan the vision of Dubai
Nakheel, one of the world's largest privately-held property developers, has strengthened its relationship with DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority) as part of the planning process for the future development of Dubai.
Nakheel will develop more than 2 billion square feet of land of a total of 4 billion square feet in Dubai over the next 20 years, with the potential to supply more than 50% of the residential properties to be constructed in the emirate during that time. The strategic alliance will act to provide Nakheel's projects, such as The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali, The Palm Deira, and Jumeirah Park, with the best possible infrastructure, enabling the considerable projects to seamlessly integrate with the wider development of Dubai.
DEWA met with senior officials from Nakheel, including Chief Executive Chris O'Donnell, to enhance regular communication and increase the close liaison between the two organisations. The meeting has helped to communicate the demands that Nakheel developments will make on services over the coming years, enabling DEWA to plan for the utility requirements.
Mr. Rashid Humaidan, DEWA Executive Vice President Consumer Services, said: «The visit to Nakheel was extremely useful to us and we received an overall brief about Nakheel projects power and water demands and expected date of requirements. This is very important for our strategic partnership with Nakheel, which will make us work together as one team towards our vision of building Dubai.»
The alliance, which follows similar partnerships with RTA (Road Transport Authority) and telecommunications provider Du, is part of a long-term strategy by Nakheel to increase coordination with the major service providers of Dubai.
Chris O'Donnell, Nakheel Chief Executive, said: «Nakheel understands the great responsibility that it has as one of the world's largest real estate developers, especially with regard to the economic and environmental development of Dubai. We are proud to be working in conjunction with DEWA to deliver a great quality of life to Nakheel development residents, and the wider community of Dubai.»
