Nakheel, one of the world's largest privately owned real estate developers, will today celebrate International Environmental Day by hosting a series of workshops and events for the general public, Nakheel staff and members of the media, at the Emirates Marine Environmental Group's summer camp in Ghantoot.

Organised by Nakheel's Waterfront and The Palm Jebel Ali's Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department and Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG), the event provides a unique opportunity for visitors to discover and participate in some of the amazing work being undertaken by the UAE's first marine environmental group.

Mr. Saeed Bin Sulayem Assistant Managing Director, The Palm Jebel Ali & Waterfront said:

«Nakheel's Waterfront and The Palm Jebel Ali's Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department have been working with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group for some time. We have been working together in order to provide sound solutions to some of the more pressing environmental issues relating to Dubai, as our nation develops and matures.»

Mahboub Hassan Saleh - Director Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department for Nakheel comments:

«Nakheel is committed to promoting sustainable development and we implement a range of environmental protection practices and policies across all our projects. We recognise the importance of education in promoting environmental preservation, which is why our partnership with EMEG is vital as we work with committed experts to bring attention to the importance of protecting our coastal areas.»

During the day's events, visitors will have the opportunity to learn how Dubai's precious marine eco-system is being protected and preserved, and gain first hand experience from those who protect the coastline. Practical sessions will cover a range of activities such as collective cleaning of the beaches and shallow water; sea rescue; fresh water conservation methods and turtle egg rescue. In addition, guests will be able to take part in a specially created treasure hunt. Visitors can also enjoy a natural life exhibition and a live video display of Dubai's underwater environment, filmed by EMEG & Waterfront divers.

EMEG is a non-profit organisation providing environmental services to a range of organisations. Created by Major Ali Surga Al Suwaidi, EMEG now works throughout all the seven independent Emirates, helping them to protect and enhance the marine environment and providing training and education.
